The Management of Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Aburi under the leadership of the Ag. Principal, Mrs. Cynthia Anim has organised a 2-day Intensive Article Writing Workshop from Thursday, 26th to Friday, 27th August, 2021 at the College’s Conference Hall. This is part of Staff Continuous Professional Development. It was on the theme: Capacity Building on Culture of Change and Academic Research.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Cynthia Anim said the workshop was aimed at empowering staff to write winning articles since the Colleges of Education’s current status demands tutors and some non-teaching management staff to publish in order to be promoted. She said together with some management members she was able to secure sponsorship from TTEL to organise the workshop. She was also grateful to ITECPD, University of Education, Winneba for their professional contribution towards the organisation of the workshop.
The Director of ITECPD, University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Dr. Dandy George Dampson and his astute members of academia namely Dr. Kofi Adu Boahen, Dr. Peter Eshun and Prof. Ernest Amponsah took turns to take participants through the workshop.
In his introductory statement, Prof. Dampson commended the Ag. Principal for the transformational leadership she has displayed in securing sponsorship from T-TEL to organise the workshop to help build capacity of staff. He said the College was the second UEW affiliate College to have organised such a workshop. He indicated that the first day will be theoretically-based while the second day will be purely practical.
He further admonished participants to understand the current trend in the Colleges of Education and brace other opportunities in the future. He said the University of Education, Winneba is hopeful that about 90% of tutors would have attained Senior Tutor rank in the next two years. He added that measures were being put in place to assist the Colleges attain such fete, the reason they are happy to be part of this workshop.
Prof. Dampson continued with his presentation on Culture of Change and promotional issues. He took participants through the concepts, rudiments and the process of change in the Colleges of Education as well as promotion progression for senior staff A – teaching.
Dr. K. Adu-Boahene also took participants through the Promotional processes in Colleges of Education, while Dr. Peter Eshun led participants in Basic Template for Writing Scholarly Articles. Prof. Ernest Amponsah also presented on Publishing in Scholarly Journals.
Day two of the workshop saw participants grouped in their various specialisations, and were tasked to use the basic template to develop an article. Presentations were made by each group while facilitators helped each group to fine-tune their work. Participants were given two weeks to present to ITECPD a corrected and detailed version of the Articles presented for further review and subsequently get it published.
In his concluding statement, Prof. Dampson urged all participants not to go to sleep after the workshop but work towards building their capacity for the future. He also entreated participants to help each other meet their goals. Participants were pleased with the delivery and requested for more of such workshops to be organised.
The Ag. Principal in her closing remarks was grateful to the facilitators for taking the College through a hands-on workshop. She entreated them to open their doors as always since she and her team will be knocking on their doors for other workshops. She was also grateful to T-TEL for sponsoring the first-ever article writing workshop in the College.
