First Lady Donates 33-Seater Bus to College

Aburi. In a significant gesture of support for women’s education and student welfare, the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has donated a brand-new 33-seater bus to the Presbyterian Women’s College of Education. The brief presentation ceremony, held on campus, was attended by Dignitaries, Faculty Members, Students, and College representatives.

The new bus is set to play a vital role in enhancing the college’s transportation capacity. It will primarily be used to facilitate the movement of students during teaching practice assignments, a critical component of their educational training. Additionally, the bus will support students’ participation in extracurricular activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transport for events, competitions, and other off-campus engagements.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, a representative of the First Lady emphasized her commitment to promoting quality education and empowering women through practical support. “Access to reliable transportation is essential for students to fully participate in all aspects of their education. This bus will ease the logistical burdens faced by the College and give students greater opportunities to grow academically and personally,” she stated.

The Principal of PWCE, Mrs. Cynthia Anim, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation, noting that it would significantly reduce the transportation challenges faced by the College. A highly elated Mrs. Anim said, “This gift will not only improve the efficiency of our academic programmes but also enhance student welfare and engagement in extracurricular pursuits.”

Students present were equally delighted, with many describing the bus as a “great relief” that would enhance their teaching practice experience and broaden their access to inter-College events.

The donation is seen as part of the broader agenda of the First Lady to support education and promote gender empowerment in Ghana. The new bus is expected to be operational immediately, offering students a safer, more convenient, and more reliable means of transportation. Students boarded the bus for a town ride.

The bus was dedicated by Rev. Ebenezer Acheampong Asiedu, the Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
