As part of its ongoing Human Development Series, the Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Aburi successfully organized a Seminar on Stress Management to support students’ mental well-being. The event, held in collaboration with health professionals from Presbyterian Hospital, Kom Aburi, aimed to raise awareness about mental health and equip students with effective stress management techniques.
The seminar covered key topics such as the types and symptoms of stress, as well as practical coping mechanisms for maintaining a healthy mind-set. Facilitators led an interactive session, emphasizing the importance of early stress recognition and proactive strategies for managing it.
A major highlight of the session was a discussion on the dangers of substance use as a coping mechanism. The health professionals cautioned students against turning to drugs, alcohol, or other substances, warning of their long-term negative effects.
“Many students experience academic pressure and personal challenges that can feel overwhelming. However, resorting to substance use only worsens the situation. Learning healthy coping strategies is essential for both academic success and overall well-being,” said Muriel Osene Kowalski, one of the facilitators.
Other experts leading the session included Benjamin Djan, Rexford Owusu-Ansah, and Deborah Mawusi Kaledzi, who shared insights and practical tips for managing stress effectively.
Students actively engaged in the discussions and expressed appreciation for the seminar, highlighting how it provided valuable guidance for handling stress in their daily lives.
This initiative reaffirms the College’s commitment to the holistic development of its students not only academically but also mentally and emotionally ensuring their overall well-being.
