The 1981-year group alumni of the Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Aburi, (APOWA) as part of their 40th anniversary of leaving College has donated 26 butterfly sewing machines to their alma mater.
The sewing machines were presented in a colourful ceremony at the Library Complex of the College where both staff, students and a cross section of the 1981 group of APOWA were present.
In a welcoming address the Ag. Principal, Mrs. Cynthia Anim expressed her profound gratitude for the group for remembering the College. She said the College has been known for a long time as a Home Economics College and that it was her pleasure to see the group help revive that glory of the College by donating 26 butterfly sewing machines to the Vocational Skills department.
She said the donation has come at a good time since the College had to procure eight (8) sewing machines the previous semester to enable the students write their practical examinations. Expressing her gratitude to the group, she also appealed to other year groups to also come to the aid of the College in other ways they can so as to help improve upon teaching and learning.
The President of the group, in her speech recounted their experiences on campus during their time and how things have greatly improved over time. According to the President, the College has really impacted on their lives. For that reason, they will build a stronger relationship with the College from now since it is often said that life begins at forty (40).
She therefore expressed their readiness to partner with the College to help improve teaching and learning.
Dedication of the 26 sewing machines was done by the College Chaplain, Rev. Mrs. Regina Odame-Dankwah after which the group cut the 40th Anniversary Cake.
